Client had an immoveable deadline to retire their legacy data warehouse and migrate 15,000 existing Cognos reports to a new Oracle data warehouse. Combining usage reports and interviewing report users reduced reports to 2,000. Decomposing reports down to their root elements was conducted, and a matrix of all base elements was produced.
Elements were further rationalized to their data warehouse location. As reports were created in the new environment, they were validated against legacy reports for accuracy. The result was a huge reduction in reports, the migration of only actively used reports, and the retirement of the legacy data warehouse.
